    Ian and Mary

Right from the word go I enjoyed MAK's the show last night - the terrific Tommy Jarrell doing 'June Apple' set the tone - the guests Bain/Moller/Molsky were excellent company - I particularly enjoyed 'Bo Weevil/Yellin’ in the Shotes'. IA from fR was good company too - I really loved the track from east Africa that he played from the 18CD Africa set; I think it was ORCHESTRA MAKASSY 'MAMBO BADO', a real topper. Throughout the show there were some smashing tunes.

However, and I hope I'm not spoiling the surprise, the only track I didn't take to came from the winning CD of the year. I have only seen Bellowhead on TV and youtube and can see that they look very good live. But I have been very disappointed by their recordings and the track last night sounded dull to me. I was not convinced that MAK or Ian thought it a deserving winner. But the show's well worth a listen.

...and there's that Orchestra Makassy track.
Enjoy the videos and music you love, upload original content, and share it all with friends, family, and the world on YouTube.

Yes, John, Bellowhead. I keep changing my mind about them. By all accounts, they thrilled New Years Eve revellers on the South Bank last year but I've seen the clips and wasn't wholly struck. I did though see the television Christmas Sessions last year when they were at Shoreditch Town Hall with the Unthanks, Thea Gilmore and Lisa Knapp. I thought that it was about the only thing worth watching on TV last Christmas and hope we are given something similar in the coming weeks.

          Same here !

And MAK is jolly good at all the interviewing stuff, I have to say. ( What did we say before ' I have to say ' ? )

The only scary bit was the size of Ian Anderson's picture on the show's web page
