I have a recording by the Amadeus Quartet - but recorded in 1959! I assume that in the 22 years between that & the recommended one the personnel changed a bit? (the players on my recording are Norbert Brainin, Siegmund Nissel, Peter Schidlof & Martin Lovett)

Actually no, the Amadeus stopped playing when Peter Schidloff died (in 1987) having stayed together since they were founded at the end of the war. Their playing changed however but as I'm not a fan, I'll leave it to others to comment on that.
