I'm not sure how attractive this one is at the price - though I really like some of Kubelik's Mahler performances.
At the moment it's £48 on MDT but my advice would be to keep a close eye on this one as the Amazon price is likely to plummet before release day. I have the Mahler set but really want the composite Beethoven cycle which is included in this box. The record companies certainly know how to dangle those carrots!

CPE Bach fans, this was well-reviewed in the latest IRR:

For me a very unattractive price for four Beethoven Symphonies!

Looks like this isn't the complete box

That's a bit naughty. I wonder if the details are correct, but I'm not going to pay to find out.

The CD box should have 56 CDs, and the MP3 is showing only 12.

It does say on the box it is 'Part 4'. Does this explain it?

DG do this quite a bit. The HvK 70s box is in several chunks on google play.

I do find the largest boxed sets quite hard to navigate as downloads - to mitigate this one has to spend time editing the metadata and track titles

Perhaps it does, but it's not by any means obvious, otherwise I wouldn't have suggested even considering the MP3s in my original post.

Looking forward to the Richard Strauss recordings made by Clemens Krauss on Decca and down for reissue on Monday.

I had the Aus Italien on an old Eclipse LP 40 years ago but the rest are new to me. Not too bothered about 1950s mono sound.

I make no apology whatsoever for recommending this nearly new and almost bargain-priced release.

                          Wiener et Doucet

Rather than part Dave Brubeck part Liberace as described in the review, they seem to me to be part Billy Mayerl part Raie da Costa, with a soupcon of Chabrier.

Jean Wiener had a long and illustrious career, Clement Doucet's rather shorter, sadly.

                          Jean Wiener

                          Clement Doucet

Each track for audition on qobuz

Excellent booklet, too, by the way (in French only)......

And Raie da Costa appears next month on the last of the Pupils of Tobias Matthay series on apr - she recorded barely a handful of serious works, the Liszt shows I think what we missed.

Before I jump in and order this

does anyone know anything about these recordings? Svetlanov in Elgar I know but Russian conductors and orchestras in V-W are a complete novelty for me.

To me, too! A pity there's not much information on who's conducting the works - if it's mostly Rozhdestvensky, it should be worth a punt - but the other two conductors are unknown to me. It looks, too, as if the Fifth Symphony is on its own on disc 4, which is a bit mean: no recordings of any other works by "Ralf" they could have filled it with? And £33 is a bit too much for me with so many unknown factors involved - but I confess; I'm intrigued!
