IMO the resurrection of this work through the hands of Martin Yates (2012) really is a waste of time and effort, how beautifully done the realisation may be. Has Scott never been taught that a piano in a concerto plays melodies in stead of passage work from beginning to end?

I admire Ulf Wallin, but am not so sure about Antje Weithaas. Okku Kamu is another big draw for the BIS recording. Oh dear, what should I do?
Hiya DublinJimbo,
As you can see only ‘In Memoriam’ is duplicated on these two releases. On CPO the playing by Antje Weithaas with a extremely smooth legato is excellent as is the NDR Radiophilharmonie of Hannover (not be confused with the NDR Sinfonieorchester of Hamberg). Sit back and wallow as I cannot imagine too many people being disappointed and well recorded too. However, on BIS I was rather more aware as Ulf Wallin as a soloist who seems to dig deeper into the music making me want to sit up and providing broader dynamics than Weithaas. I am rarely disappointed with the magnificent Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin and they play splendidly under Okko Kamu. Wallin on BIS is much closer recorded. If I was asked to choose just one of these two releases I would struggle to choose. Even though I am a great admirer of the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin who I get to see in concert a couple of times each year on balance I would plump for Antje Weithaas and the NDR Radiophilharmonie of Hannover.
