Ah yes, Carl Schuricht: a fine conductor, and sadly negected. I've got the Karajan recording of Bruckner 8, of course, on Deutsche Grammophon (427 611-2GHZ if you are interested) but while I was working in a CD shop, a little old man came in and we got talking (as you do) about the wonderful Anton (blessed be his name), and he mentioned that he had seen Schuricht conduct in Berlin in the 1950s. Next thing, he came back with a bootleg recording of a live recording by the master himself. Herbert is good, but Carl rocks IMHO...
