As I stated in the Early Music WAYLTN thread I will be embarking on listening to a few of the cycles that are available of Buxtehude's organ music. MickyD kindly recommended Simone Stella's, which I am listening to now, via amazon Prime Music. so far very good listening.
had a good listen to Tchaikovsky Symphony # 4, Celibidache Munchner/ Phil this morning , which I enjoyed a great deal.
which led me to thinking about which discs you lot prefer in this work.
Do tell.
( I have a number of recordings, none of which register on the Presto Classical " Building a Library lists.)
I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own.
Sound Frontiers: Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli at the Royal Festival Hall, London

My life, each morning when I dress, is four and twenty hours less. (J Richardson)
I actually listened to the Szell/LSO yesterday evening - WOW! Surely a (even 'the') gold standard here.
Markevitch/LSO on Philips is another one I particularly enjoy.
The first-ever Tchaikovsky fourth I acquired, and still have, was a CfP (what else? ) with, if my memory serves me correctly, the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain conducted by Oivin Fjelstad
I haven't played it for about 30+ years - but I seem to remember thinking how superbly brazen and 'going for it' it was....

Leningrad/Mravinsky to be sure; Anima Eterna/Immerseel is an interesting HIPP take on the work. I like Celibidache's 5th but I haven't heard his 4th, I expect I'd like it though. This is pretty much the only Tchaikovsky piece I ever listen to. I think it's because it featured in the first orchestral concert I ever went to.
Yes, that BBCSO/Rozhdestvensky is an absolute cracker of a performance, one of my favourites. Otherwise, Leningrad PO/Mravinsky and the 1977 BPO/Karajan.
"The sound is the handwriting of the conductor" - Bernard Haitink
Belatedly caught up with the CBSO Tchaikovsky Fourth at the Proms.
A worthy debut for M G-T yet I'd steer Sainty in the direction of LPO/Jurowski, just that bit more grip on the symphonic dimension and even more exciting.
It strikes me I have long underestimated the Fourth.
