Tassis Christoyannis does a great job but ideally I would have preferred hearing more than a single singer for 107 melodies.Last edited by Stanfordian; 22-11-19, 01:05.

Schubert. Symphony No.9 in C Major. 'The Great'.
The Scottish Chamber Orchestra conducted by Maxim Emelyanychev. LINN Records.
Imho, an absolutely outstanding recording, both musically and technically.
I honestly didn't think any recording could displace my love for the classic Boult/LPO disc but this really does!

Beethoven: String Quartets Op. 59 "Razumovsky", Nos 1 & 2
Quatuor Ébène
A bit like PG and that rather wonderful Schubert "Great" from the SCO and their immensely gifted (but, as I was told on Saturday by one of the SCO's management team, a wee bit unworldly - as in he only brought one shirt with him to serve for three nights of concerts) new principal conductor, this new recording from the equally immensely gifted Ébènes is a joy from start to finish. The first Razumovsky is a desert island work for me - and I'm struggling to think of a finer recording than this one. OK, gush over, it really is exceptional.

There are so many wonderful Hanh songs which are perfectly suited to his voice.
Sincere thanks for pointing me towards this set.

What I mean is:
I have never knowingly come across him before listening to this set this morning - This is the first time I have knowingly heard him sing.
Yes, I've just read he was on the Solti Ring Cycle.
Anyway up - I find his singing to be superb; which is the point I was trying to make.Last edited by Stanfordian; 22-11-19, 13:06.
