It's all so stressful isn't it? I too should be doing other things on a Bank Holiday....

But can we have a Z to link:

        A brainwashed hairy insect
A home shared by two composers
Ben invariably needs another pair of hands for this piece
        Pacta sunt servanda !!!

Intriguing... Are the shared home / Ben supposed to make us think of Britten and Pears, and if so, is that a ish misdirection?

(Rather more available today than I thought - before setting out, got messages that the relative I was supposed to be going to visit died in the night, so services are not required... )
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
          Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

            Sorry to hear that, Calibs.

I don't think Pears was composer, was he? But the two I have in mind were same-sex. (I was going to put but I don't want to be accused of being homophobic )

But the Ben bit in the third clue is correct

Sorry to hear that Caliban, I hope you're not too upset at missing the chance to say goodbye
I cannot get anywhere with Flay's latest, my first thought also was of Ben Britten but then I wondered, is heavy metal involved again with the hairy brainwashed insect (Flay seems very knowledgeable about HM)

Warlock and Moeran shared a house that I used to live near but I can't think of an associated Z

No, not those two. Mine lived further west. Not heavy metal, Anna, quieter than that, although of the same era.

looks as if Barber and Menotti might fall into this category

Thanks both... No, not upset, I think he was pretty unaware of things - would have gone for aunt-support but she is with friends and then will sleep I think having been up most of the night. It's one of those "merciful release" situations, I think.

DOH!! No wonder I struggle sometimes. I was thinking Barber Menotti, too, and meant to type that...

Doesn't get me closer to a Z though...

EDIT: mercia got to the Barber's before I'd finished typing...

There's a good Y going there - GCM lived in Yester House in East Lothian, I've been there (my mate owns the next-door castle )
