      Quite right

      So pursuant to AL:

Gabriel Yared wrote the scores for
      Troy
      Talented Mr Ripley (the conman)
      Cold Mountain.

      How do you feel about setting a question...? I guess it's X, Z ... or A...

      Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

        a Z to connect

a lieutenant on the USS 16th President, the Verona Arena, and the discovery of a soprano from Draguignan

Ah! We are plundering the riches of early 20th century opera these days, aren't we my dear mercia...

The link here for me is Draguignan where I've stayed a couple of times, and knew was the birthplace of Lili Pons thanks to a music-mad dining companion down there. And so we find (amid many discoveries about her in the last few minutes - I had no idea about her career as an advertising model, nor the Gershwin connection) that she was discovered by the dashing Giovanni Zenatello... Our Z I think, who also

          - created the role of Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly (he being a Lieutenant aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln)
          - was instrumental in turning the Arena in Verona into an operatic venue...

ouch! I've been found out - a few useful Zs in the world of opera

indeed absolutely correct in all particulars

An A please which connects an 18th century Idomenée, a 20th century Medée and a synesthetic pianist who has a passion for wolves.

Ahead of me, Norf's: I was still trying to find a work by Morton Feldman with "West" in the title!

Lucky you remembered the West theme. I still can't believe I spent time thinking of an N last night to follow M for Morton....

Mind you, watch out whoever sets M... I'll be gunning the mental throttle so I can use my ish N...

                    Mwaaah-ha-ha-ha!!!

(I've actually emailed it to myself as a reminder! )

No... the A is not the initial of any names involved - merely of the connecting element

I tink Ms Grimaud may fit that rather exclusive category

                              I'd got there as well.

Cherubini fits the Medee but no A sign!
