As Northo correctly said, the F-A-E Sonata for violin and piano was a collaboration by Schumann, Brahms, and Albert Dietrich written as a bit of fun for Joachim, whose motto was "Frei aber einsam" (free but lonely). Brahms's Scherzo is often heard.

Anklänge (Echoes) - from Six Songs op. 7, no. 3.
Gesang aus Fingal for female voices, 2 horns, and harp, Op.17
Crikey, that was a killer.... Amazing stuff from Norffs to solve that b*gger!

Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
      Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

Is the other trumpeter Eddie Calvert?

**sounds of bells ringing, over-active klaxon, etc**

Yes, the other trumpeter is indeed Eddie Calvert.

Eddie Calverty had a no.1 hit with Cherry Pink and Apple Blossom White

Frank Bridge wrote Cherry Ripe for string quartet

Handel wrote an aria Ruddier Than A Cherry

                    Cheers Flay!

                    It's the Magnificent Margaret Rutherford

I'm off out prontissimo, should be back by 16:30 so I'm afraid there will be a modest hiatus before the D is revealed

Very good, and the 'D' is clearly yours - but what about Don?

Darn you, Flay! I'd just uploaded that self-same pic in order to append a jovial post.

I presume this is a reference to the great Don Cherry?
I think I am having an ultra-blonde day but I honestly don't get where Fingal is in Brahms

                                Correct!
Don Cherry, our first trumpeter, may have included in his record collection:
Frank Bridge's arrangement of 'Cherry Ripe'
Handel's aria 'Ruddier Than The Cherry' and
Eddie Calvert's 'Cherry Pink and Apple Blossom White'.*
                                Over to Ammy for 'D'
                                * or Perez Prado's version, come to that.
