Jean Barraquée planned a large-scale cycle of pieces, La Mort de Virgile, based on Hermann Broch's novel The Death of Virgil, a book which Barraqué's friend and sometime lover Michel Foucault recommended to him.

, and in spite of the various spelling errors (I won't even attempt to call them "Typos"! )

The C is yours, Sir Flay!

(Barraqué's Piano Sonata featured in a fantastic recital by Nic Hodges in this year's Huddersfield Festival: taking six minutes off the previous "fastest" performance I know, he joined the sections together better than I've ever heard it. Hearing it in a Hall acoustic, too, helped a lot: I'm no longer so scornful of the "best Piano Sonata since Beethoven" tag!)

Never mind, ferney - we all share a slice of that particular cake from time to time
