Caliban, it's all sweetness and light here today! And we have made anton very happy as he can escort Mrs. anton whilst she does some damage to his credit card!! So all is well in the world.

        What L links

        - a Menotti (or is that the Beatles?) premiere
        - a 1940 Gypsy debut
        - a Milanese maestro

I've been at my desk cogitating but all I can come up with so far is Lucerne. Milanese-born Claudio Abbado and the Lucerne Festival Orchestra, and Inge Borkh making her debut there in 1940 in Strauss's Gypsy Baron, but Menotti....?

None of his works were premiered there and of course he went on to found a rival festival in Spoleto. Some googling has only unearthed the mildly interesting fact that Edith Mathis was born in Lucerne and sang in the premiere of his Help! Help! The Globolinks. (And of course Help! was a Beatles song/film) ?

So maybe that's it - Lucerne?

Oh, do stop taking umbrage, hercule. I only meant 'mildly' in relation to the information about Ms Mathis, and not being certain of my findings. It was a good question and I enjoyed trying to solve it. I will now devote my energy to coming up with an M.

Well done rubbra, I was just about to post my answers which were totally different to yours! (Glad I didn't now!) Hercule, it was an interesting one but the second clue baffled me. There is a Menotti/Beatles connection with Yes, I love her from Goya and Beatles And I love her

Edit: Abbado's first conducting gig was Prok's Love of Three Oranges (another piece of trivia!)

look what popped up on musicweb-international.com when I did a little preliminary searching:

                    "Lithuanian Women Marriage

I don't know how he unearths them all, Anna. He's like a truffle pig...

I'm glad to see you can't do the accents either - I'm sure there's a missing circumflex somewhere there?

Dŵr Cymru You can do it via cut and paste but on the number keyboard I cannot find there is a code for a W with a circumflex.

I'm not sure Caliban will like being compared to a truffle pig ..... But he does seem to have the knack!

I've been called worse by our esteemed archivist.

I have not delved into AnastasiaDate.co.uk for fear of breaching our work firewall and setting red flashing lights off in our IT department. But I'm confident that Wales's comeliest will comfortably carry the day.

To my regret, this eyebrow-raisingly named Lithuanian composer has not produced a symphonic triptych... http://www.bumstein.com/art/

Do you actively seek, or do they just seem to find you...?

My Lithuanian is female, as it happens. Not that will help you very much.

The enticingly described colour-bar-maid is also female, as signified by use of the word 'maid' (which is also a general clue). In keeping with the character of the messageboards you can also assume she is musical. You might also assume, correctly, that she had been the victim of a colour bar, and therefore perhaps a little dusky of hue?

If that is Caliban in his avatar I'm not surprised they seek him out!

I can't play at the moment (will it be as obsure as the J I wonder?) I had a communication from HMRC today and whilst I'm sure they don't make mistakes ..... this looks all wrong to me, so paperwork needs to be gone through
