You've been necking fermented pineapple chunk syrup again, haven't you?!

    Working on it...

Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
    Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

That's Shchedrin then? Of Carmen for percussion and strings and an opera on Lolita. I took away my post (naughty I know) because I suddenly realised that if I were correct I'd have to set a question........But I think I can come up with one after all if needs be.

The settee must await the judgement of the setter. It looks like Caliban had a late night...

                      Hedgehog!! Shchedrin is is!!

And Lolita is indeed the Nabokov part of the puzzle.

Could you set out the Chekhov parts, and the Tolstoy?

They you're clear for Take off for your maiden question

The others feature as storylines in ballets by Shchedrin.

                        Courtesy of Wikipedia:

"Anna Karenina", ballet in three acts after Leo Tolstoy(1971). First performance on 10 June 1972 in Moscow by the Bolshoi Theatre, Y. Simonov (cond).
"The Seagull", ballet in two acts after Anton Chekhov's play (1979). First performance in 1980 in Moscow by the Bolshoi Theatre, Alexander Lazarev (cond).
"The Lady with the Lapdog", ballet in one act after Anton Chekhov (1985). First performance on 20 November 1985 in Moscow by the Bolshoi Theatre, Alexander Lazarev(cond).

It's probably too easy, but let's have the 'T-intersection' between Nono, Rihm and Takemitsu please!
