Dave, small point before I disappear off until lunchtime. If someone gets a composer who features in the answer right, but in the wrong context it's usual to confirm it is that composer, although wrong, if you follow. Saves people going off on further goose chases.

          Is the right answer!

Now figure the rest. Doversoul made a useful comment in a msg yesterday - http://www.for3.org/forums/showthrea...1776#post61776 - could be adapted.

a-ha there is a musical instrument, a fingerboard synthesizer no less, called a Persephone

            now rock bands ........

Persephone (a band) was started in February 2001. It is an acoustic solo project with influences such as Penfold and A Perfect Kiss. Persephone is a beautiful blend of acoustic guitar, soulful lyrics about love, faith, sorrow, and hope.

Far too obscure for me, I am afraid, or I am just not back on form yet. Been relaxing far too much.

not sure, I vaguely thought the origin of the word mellifluous was the latin for honey but I could be completely off-piste there

Yes, sweet or flowing with honey but I thought it was from the Greek 'Melissa' which is a honeybee?

No, you're right mercia. It is from the Latin although Meli in Greek is honey (from Melissa) Confusing. I think Dave must be an expert in obscure pop groups (as in The Lilac Time!)

Heavens above. I am clearly still not fully awake. So it must be your suggestion, Mercia. Of course,

I'm back online now but see we still await confirmation as to P. Btw, Amateur hasn't been around for quite a while on any threads, hope he's alright or maybe he's on holiday? Talking of which, I am off to Sussex for a while next week, it seems I am to be escorted to a garden party on the Saturday (given by an ardent fan of Andre Rieu who follows him all round Europe!) and will be playing petanque on the Sunday. Seeing as I have never played before ......... should be fun! Must have a look at the rules, etc.

I've cleared my PMs so can't give chap. & verse, but, yes, he beetled off to France to stay with friends last week.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

                                Angie and Mercia

Seems that you got there. Well done!

I did come across both Persephone and Persephone's Bees while looking for rock bands.

I did think of giving a straight steer towards Stravinsky, but thought that would be too easy. I also thought (before I set this) that Persephone is a ballet, but it seems it really isn't, though it has some dance features. I was very surprised that it is also the name of an instrument. Finding the name of the band to add to the clues was then not too difficult.

I am assuming that you're all going to use Google and other tools in order to do these. They'd be far too hard based on regular general or musical knowledge.

I shall sit back for a while now, and see how the next few letters go. Unfortunately I do have to work a bit.
