    erm, well, Peteris Vasks's 4th & 5th String Quartets were written for Kronos, he is/has been composer-in-residence for the Presteigne and Vale of Glamorgan Festivals. John Metcalf is the Artistic Director of the V of G Festival but I can't seem to find any other particular links between Kronos & Vale of Glamorgan. Is the answer Vale or Vasks?
    Spot on the money with Vasks, mercia

        Felix Bernard and lyricist Richard B. Smith wrote Winter Wonderland

        Hans Werner Henze wrote Royal Winter Music for Julian Bream

        In the Winter section of Haydn's The Seasons, Hanne and the chorus sing a song about a spinning wheel.

        How am I doing?

        Later: Tchaikovsky symphony no 1 Winter Daydreams, op13

        W = Winter

                        I had no idea he'd been waving his stick in the Principality. Good musician

                        No idea about anton's Y despite the DSCH connection

                        Bruckner now, then recorded England v Scotland having avoided spoilers I hope...
                        "...the isle is full of noises,
                        Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
                        Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
                        Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

                          I've been thrilled with the stuff F-X Roth has recorded with Les Siecles (many thanks to MickyD for the pointer ) - gripping performance of Stravinsky's Firebird and a wonderfully 'clarified' Saint-Saens Organ symphony but still packing lots of 'oomph'

                          Speaking of 'oomph' - c'mon Scotland!

                            well two of Shosty's symphonies have Year in their subtitles
                            and Defoe wrote A Journal of the Plague Year
                            so perhaps Y = Year, but as to Elvis ......................
