This was the problem I encountered, too, Flay when trying to make up a question! (I thought "warrior Princesses" was pushing the cultural references a bit far!)

A Y to link a saxophonist, a conductor, and a composer. Two of them were born in the same city. The other was born in a place in the same country whose name is an anagram of that city's name.

And what a satisfying, tight question!

from Dumbledore. Course I have no idea of the answer...
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
        Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

Is it? Darn! That rules out:
              Takuo Yuasa (conductor)
              Joji Yuasa (composer)
              Noriaki Yuasa (saxophonist)
              then!

You are correct that they are ruled out.

This is going to be a grasping at straws (or sushi) question I think. Knowing nothing about Japanese music. Yukiko Nishimura? Going to sit this one out.

On the subject of Japanese, did Caliban fall in love with Yaki the Japanese Pixie last night on MasterChef? I certainly did!

Who said anything about Japanese music? The saxophonist plays jazz. The conductor gave the first Japanese performances of Mahler 8, The Rite of Spring, and Webern's orchestral music. The composer studied composition in Berlin.

Not really! I saw her on part of the programme... Did she get through?

The conductor sounds like Seiji Ozawa but I've lost track of the question and how one might get to a Y... Rather a long day of work.

I may be back unless the brain closes down, which is a possibility

Gosh, I'm tired too. I hopefully have managed to keep my partnership together today. Time will see.

How about Yutaka Sado, a conductor born in Kyoto???

No, it is the saxophonist who was born in Kyoto.

And of course Yutaka Uchida, a composer and drummer born in Tokyo.

What warped mind thinks these clues up?

Oh I see I'm on the wrong trail.
