On last night's Radio 2 Blues Show, Cerys Matthews had a SirVan special with Morrison talking about his new Skiffle Album and some of his influences - she seems to be able to get the best out of the old grouch - very enjoyable show.

Sitting in the car today shifting between the channels, and I came upon another Tour de Force of African music as John Wilson was interrogating Senegal's Baaba Maal about his Cultural Life on BBC Radio4. I found it very interesting indeed. Well worth a listen.

BBC have a habit of flogging a dead horse until it falls dead on the ground stinking of rotten flesh.
As for Lisa O'N - she is worth seeking out anywhere and will give an uncompromising yet enchanting performance I am sure.

On Radio 4 Extra last night, with part two this evening, was John Wilson in conversation with Eliza and Martin Carthy centred on Eliza's 'Anglicana', but with a wide ranging discussion. This evening is the B Side where audience members ask questions of the Carthys. Very enjoyable listen.

Last night on 'Mastertapes' on 4 extra, John Wilson's guest from ten years back was Natalie Merchant. It was a very moving half hour as they explored her first solo record, 1995's wonderful 'Tigerlily'. Part 2 is this evening.

A hidden treasure on the BBC4 from 2015 which we missed first time around.
Presented by the intrepid Sona Datta who has a very deep knowledge of the Indus and, the wonderful art, the many religions and, for me a real eye opener that I felt I should have known more about - the influences.
Here is the link to episode one:
There isn't much music however towards the end there is a section of Qawwali.
and here is who she should have referenced, the one and only Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan
...although the clips she used were remarkable:Last edited by Globaltruth; 25-07-23, 13:55.

Desert Island Discs with Shirley Collins - probably one of my favourite episodes ever
Not so much the choice of music but her total honesty and clarity.

Although 61 Highway Blues by Fred McDowell was terrific, especially with her scene setting:

The final piece on this morning's 'From Our Own Correspondent' on BBC Radio 4 had Simon Broughton in Baku at a festival celebrating Mugha, the classic music of the area.

Through the night tonight BBC Radio 6 is playing a two-hour programme recorded in 1971 when Viv Stanshall stepped in for John Peel and brought his pal, Keith Moon, in to give him a hand out. I'm not sure I've ever heard it before, but here's the details. Caution: the blurb for the programme does use the word 'zany' in the description,
