      Keep the Faith

A really good WM show from the other day; and Ms Nightingale did a superb job I thought, most unobtrusive with some cracking interviews.

I'm assuming that this is the film that got nowhere near my local duplex, so delighted to see a bit Muscle Shoals on Beeb 4 this coming Friday.
Film about the studio where some of America's most creative and defiant music was made.

John, yep, it's that wonderful, unmissable documentary even with the inclusion of Mr Unnecessary, aka Bono. Star of the show for me is ... no I'll not prejudice your viewing !

I decided to bodyswerve most of the Ravelaisian ditties on 3 yesterday, and was rewarded with an excellent hour on 6 in the company of David Rodigan, where he and Lamacq played a host of fine reggae tunes in the post 6pm watershed, including this which I thought was a real beaut.

Nitin Sawhney Spins the Globe is back on Rad2 for another series of 4 - I find him a bit irritating but he's playing a few nice tunes* and he's got Natacha Atlas in to do a session with him - write and record on the day - listening to him you'd think he was the only one who does this - doesn't he listen to Late Junction on that once a month Thursday...honestly!!!
Nitin has a collaboration with Natacha Atlas who brings her Arabic style to Radio 2.

*...he also plays some crappy ones!

Yes, well WM pops up all over the BBC Radio schedules (with certain exceptions of course, ahem).

Here's another one from our chums in r4

I heard this in the car the other day - a very wee bit of good tunes but somehow dance doesn't quite work in the medium of radio I find - he speaks 6 or 7 languages mind you, including Welsh I think I heard.

I'm looking forward to seeing the Doc on Gene Clark on Beeb 4 this Friday.
Profile of Gene Clark, the former Byrds frontman who pioneered folk rock and country rock.

Here's one of my faves from him...

Highly recommended to the quality audience here - this quite odd in a way, film of Harry Hook's
Harry Hook uses his images to tell a personal story as he visits remote tribal groups.

and here's one I unreasonably recommend avoiding....

If out of curiousity you click on the genre 'world' on the BBC Radio wesbite, one of the shows offered is Giles Peterson's.

                        http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b03yrkyv

He started off with Seun Kuti, but I found after that there was a long overdose of high powered dance beats so this particular listener tuned out.
Clearly unfair to make such a recommendation on the basis of a single listen, so I will revisit his show again during this decade and provide a more considered opinion...

Hope springs eternal - I'm now looking forward to the new controller joining r3 who will doubtless sort WM out once and for all...what do you reckon he/she'll do?

Watched BBC2's 50 years of music last night - needless to say the programme was one where some short clips you wanted more of and some you wanted a lot less of. Really enjoyed the one-minute clip from this piece from the early 90s of Ryuichi Sakamoto, I think on the Late Show, so looked out the whole thing.

Just noticed that Sahrawi singer Aziza Brahim whom I mentioned did a great session on Cerys Matthews' show on Sunday is a guest of Jools this week...I don't often have much reason to tune in but will be making an exception this week.
