The 2nd Brahms Piano Concerto and the 4th Beethoven Piano Concerto.

I am more of a Brahmsian than a Beethovenite.

Always have been - but it always surprises me.

I like that CD a lot, although more for the Babbitt and Cage pieces than the others!

Trust have you have been enjoying the Haitink recordings, Joseph.

A fine fine cycle IMHO. I listened to a couple of Solti LvB symphonies from his second set today.

A rather plodding Seventh and a sprightlier Eighth, it’s Sir Georg who sounds a bit dour to me and BH a lot more riveting. The LSO Eighth a real highlight of that series.

Yes I have, and I would agree with you about the eighth.

What Varèse works are in that set?

Arcana - quite a searing and startlingly precise performance, compromised only by the percussion being artificially loud - the version I would listen to most often before Gielen came along.

Thanks. Sounds like it's definitely worth checking out. I'm always excited to hear performance of Varèse compositions that I've not come across before.
