I have been, to no effect
various composers have covered the Dido story, only one has a name beginning with M as far as I can see and he didn't write any little symphonies

little symphony could be Petite Symphonie or sinfonietta I suppose

Who said we were looking for a composer in all three cases?

"Petite Symphonie" is two-thirds of a link.

I think I explored Frank Martin and his Petite Symphonie Concertante and decided there wasn't a Dido connection

Frank Martin is correct for the third link. Who was responsible for the first performance of Dido and Aeneas in the modern era?

not sure. tempted to say Tippett. wikipedia says there's a 1935 recording conducted by Clarence Raybould.
                        a student performance in 1895 ?

Many apols for very late return.

Great stuff, scb but only Cerys is the right answer ... and for the wrong reason

The L in question is an instrumental virtuoso

But carry on do, with the M

A Version of the opera adapted to modern dance was choreographed by the American Mark Morris, who originally danced both the roles of Dido and the Sorceress. It premiered on 11 March 1989 at the Théâtre Varia in Brussels. But this is only google, not knowledge
