No - bwe are talking 3 composers all linked to this W - but one is very much more famous for something else in the world of classical music ....

Just to say I've been puzzling quietly over this all day... I've been well wide of the mark so far! Do I recall that mercia was known in a former manifestation as Hercule? He should be right at home with Miss Marple now in the frame...
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
          Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

I feel you may be closing in mercs .....

Honey and Jane both had to thank the composer for shall we say their best know works

Handel was arranged by this very regular visitor to the AA clue list

And Under Stress is rather obscure I admit .......

              But not West ....

The best I managed was discovering that in the original production of the Handel one of the roles was taken by a Mr Walzer - so I've been looking out for Strauss Waltzes with a German name that translates into "Under Stress".

                    I don't get out much.

apparently there's some of il pastor fido in Beecham's Love In Bath
there's a novel by Geoffrey Wolff called The Age Of Consent but I don't think he's written Under Stress

oops - that's not how you spell Wolf anyway

Mozart arranged Messiah - no connection with Jane Marple that I can find.

                        "Under Stress" - We are?!
