in the musical Annie Get Your Gun, Annie claims "Anything you can do, I can do better"

          so A = Anything

Good to see you here. Welcome back. Yes, of course. You have all the parts, so you have the B now.

If I do another clue later on I'll try to stick mostly to classical music which might make it easier, though the preceding Zipoli was quite tough,
and I have to say I'd never heard of him before.

                a B to connect

                - celestial Olivier
                - lutenist John's son
                - beggars label

                  mercia,

Congratulations on the A - I was completely floundering. My brain was not looking for anything as abstract as Anything.

                  As for B:

                  Banquet?

                  Messiaen's Banquet Celeste
                  Robert Dowland's Musical Banquet
                  Beggars Banquet record label.

                      Merci mercia.

                      A straightforward C methinks:

What C links musical works by Birtwistle and 10CC splitters, and a film directed by Richard Attenborough?

I have to log off for a couple of hours, so I'll check back round about 14.30 hours (BST ). I do have a 'D' ready, as it happens.

AHA!! And you said you weren't playing .......... You couldn't resist Taps' siren call! Mercia mentioned the list, I do have it but I think as there has been quite a long gap we don't really need it. However, could someone take over as Archivist for the new game?
