Arensky: Piano Trio no. 1 in D minor op. 32
Tchaikovsky: Piano Trio in A minor op. 50
    Trio Wanderer

Rachmaninov: Piano Trio no. 2 in D minor op. 9 ('Trio élégiaque')
Christian Tetzlaff (violin), Tanja Tetzlaff (cello), Artur Pizarro (piano)

I'm a great fan of the Trio Wanderer, and their performances here are very fine, but the Rachmaninov recording is in a different class altogether. Perhaps it's because it was recorded live, perhaps it's due to the atmosphere in the Heimbach Hydroelectric Plant where the performance was part of the annual 'Spannungen/Tensions' chamber music festival (June 2014) — whatever the reason, this is music-making of the highest order imaginable (and a superb recording to boot).

Listening via streaming on Apple Music. It will definitely be a purchase. Probably download - trying to reduce the accumulation of CDs in my house.

(I think I sent someone a text message about all this earlier, but they haven’t read it)

Sorry ,been sorting some complicated arrangements for footy on Thursday night.

I am so tempted by the Kabelac box. There is a market place seller who has had it at £18 a couple of times, but doesnt seem to ATM.

Qobuz download in CD quality is £19.99, but no booklet. The CDs are available directly from Amazon for £23.34. If you (look away Jayne) can stand e-music's resolution and sound quality, they have the set for just over £10.

It's not half bad. Better than I expected. Anthony Payne does a marvellous job with his orchestrations.
