Five red stars for both performance and recording.

There are a couple of recordings Bbm, the earlier with the dedicatee Campoli. Not the equal of either the Piano or Cello Concerto IMO. Very clearly orchestrated with some memorable ideas but lacks cohesion, especially in the finale. Very demanding technically though.

Thanks Sc. Might give it an airing on Spotify, in that case.

Cheers ER. What's Hickox's Colour Symphony like as opposed to Handley's?

I have a version by Campoli, on a BBC Classics CD.

Agree with suffy's comment in comparison to the cello and piano concertos.

Elgar: Introduction and Allegro for Strings op. 47
Vaughan Williams: Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis

This conductor is new to me, but I'll be making a note of the name after hearing this glorious recording. Each work is full of detail that has never registered before, and all this newness is carried off utterly convincingly. Add to the interpretive treasures a recording of ideal clarity and we're talking about something really special here. I've listened to it three times on the trot on Qobuz streaming and now it's definitely time to click the Buy button and add the high-resolution download to my collection.

                              I like your recommendations Jim

I believe RS is one of the orchestra's leaders.
