I didn't have any reservations about the programming and the pacing really worked in the hall as live performances.

"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
      Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

Well next year we will be getting no 1. The Sea Symphony. Maybe not from the BBCSSO and Manze?

Hopefully also, no.8 often written off as a slight work or the "The little Eighth" , it is nevertheless a gem and the finale
given decent playing of all those Spiels,Phones and Timps known to the composer will bring the house down.

It's not in the BBCSSO programme. Whence your information?

If he'd looked up-thread he would have seen a post from me listing the VW symphonies in the BBCSSO's 2012-13 season.

Calling all VW fans - no, strike that: all music fans....

Another run out for this magnificent thoroughbred of a concert tomorrow night (early hours of Saturday in fact) in the first two hours of TTN.... Worth a visit to the iPlayer thereafter for non-night owls who missed it.

I was there on the night and it was unforgettable, and much discussed since on this Forum!

I was there on the night. I was with a friend who was neither a reuglar concery-goer nor a confirmed RVW-fan but she loved it, as did I.

Imagine ... if one year on 01 January as a surprise a certain well-known European orchestra played this programme instead of Johann Strauss et al
