    Afternoon Concert - general thread

    These works were included today:

    Victoria: Missa pro Victoria

    and

    Janequin: La Guerre
    Bavarian Radio Chorus
    Howard Arman, director

I thought the Victoria Mass was dreadfully unrelieved and heavy. La Guerre would have benefited from smaller forces (a madrigalian OVPP seems best for this characterful piece).

The contemporary pieces which followed seemed better suited to the BRC.

                I don’t. I’m only guessing.

I think this is an excellent idea of Lat. Afternoon Concert doesn’t deserve to be so completely neglected as it is now on the forum. The programmes are usually well presented now (once, there was a bad time) and there are many interesting concerts. Whether I did or I will, this looks to me to be a good place to post about the programme.

                  recorded at the Philharmonie, Essen

Listened this afternoon because I didn’t fancy the opera.
I mostly enjoyed it,didn’t like the Pintscher cello concerto, fast forwarded after a few mins, and found the Mozart 39 a bit routine but the rest was very good.

Hope we’re still friends after Saturday’s game Lat

More in your line, possible, [ or, translated from the original Idiotian: "I completely agree with your choice of the Mendelssohn Scottish",] Edgy - a rather good performance of a work I don't always greatly appreciate, except in performances as good as this one.

The BBCSSO is very lucky to have Dausgaard looking after them. (Still hoping for their completed Bruckner #9 to reach the Beeb MusMag cover CD - or any commercially-avaialable recording for that matter.)

Apologies - long, busy day, at the end of which I needed to say something positive on the Forum.
